  • Overview

    The Medical Laboratory Technologist, under the direction of the laboratory director and under the supervision of the general supervisor, processes specimens, performs test procedures, make preliminary interpretations, maintains equipment, perform quality control and troubleshooting.  


    • Receive and process specimens according to protocols
    • Properly perform HLA tests according to procedure
    • Produce, interpret and report accurate and precise test results
    • Perform procedures related to deceased donor workups including updating UNOS / UNET
    • Participate in proficiency testing surveys.
    • Participate in rotating weekend call (approx.1 day/6 weeks) & rotating holiday call (1 / year)
    • Communicate issues to supervisor or other appropriate individual.
    • Perform instrument maintenance and method troubleshooting.
    • Assists in documentation and maintaining effective department QA programs and monitors. 



    At DCI HLA Transplant Laboratory, we pride ourselves on the financial compensation package provided to our technologists as outlined below. In addition, DCI also provides a full compensation package including medical, dental and vision insurance, tuition reimbursement and retirement.


    • Starting pay rate (with no experience) - $26 /hr (plus $2/hr upon completion of training)
    • Shift differentials : 2nd shift diff - $3 / hr * 3rd shift diff - $5 /hr
    • Pass CHT exam (paid by DCI after 1.5 – 2 yrs employment) - $1 / hr
    • On call stipend (per day on call) - $100 / day
    • Call-back stipend (if called into work) - $15 / hr (in addition to regular pay or overtime (>40 hrs))


    • Must hold a valid Tennessee Laboratory License as a Medical Technologist (MT or MLS).
    • ASCP certification or eligible
    • Maintains appropriate continuing education for certification and licensure
    • After 1.5-2 years employment, pass Certified Histocompatibility Technologist (CHT) exam administered by ABHI (American Society of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics)
